What Is a Slot in RiverWare?

slot

A slot is a position within a group, series, or sequence. It is also a term in gambling, referring to the position on a slot machine reel that a winning combination of symbols can occupy. Slot machines are popular in casinos and can be played for real money or virtual coins. They are usually themed and can include bonus features and scatter symbols.

Using the View, Show Selection Statistics option allows the user to see statistics on a selected set of slot values. These are based on the averaging of the slot values over the duration chosen. The resulting set of result values is then sorted in decreasing order and presented as the single result for that duration.

In addition to these statistics, there is a row of information on the selected slots that provides additional information on the selected values. This includes the display precision, the number of compressed values (a scalar slot can be compressed to a single value), and the convergence value for the slot.

In addition to these standard time series slots, RiverWare offers a special table type called the periodic slot. Periodic slots are used to hold data that repeats at a regular interval, such as a set of monthly evaporation coefficients for a reservoir. These are different each year and could not be held in a standard time series slot because the time element is lost. The periodic slot can be configured to Interpolate or Lookup, and the time step may vary (1 Hour, 1 Day, 1 Month). Integer indexed slots are also supported and work in the same way as standard time series slots.
